The number of Spider Vein removal procedures performed in the United States has doubled since 2000. These veins are an embarrassing skin condition that can affect anyone, but they are most common among women over the age of 30. Below we will discuss more on this condition and how to treat it effectively.
These red, swollen veins usually occur on your legs and arms but can also appear on your face or chest. They may be hereditary or caused by other factors like too much standing or sitting for long periods; hormonal changes; pregnancy; obesity; illness such as diabetes; aging-related blood vessel dysfunction (i.e., peripheral artery disease); prolonged sun exposure; certain types of birth control pills or hormone therapy medications (especially estrogen)
They are not severe in most cases, but they can be uncomfortable. Moreover, they may cause pain when wearing tight clothes or shoes; they might itch; and they may make you feel self-sensible about showing your legs or arms in swimsuits, shorts, short dresses, etc.
Almost anyone that’s self-conscious about their appearance on legs and arms can benefit from this treatment. The treatment typically happens on an outpatient basis at our office.
The benefits include increased self-confidence and a better quality of life. It can change how you feel about yourself, and others will also notice a positive difference in your appearance.
They are often blue or purple. They look like thin red lines on the surface of your skin, and they branch out like a spider’s web. They are like varicose veins, but they’re smaller and more superficial (closer to the surface of your skin).
The three types of treatments available for removing them include sclerotherapy, laser therapy, and surgical removal.
The affected veins are injected with a solution that destroys the vein. The procedure lasts about 30 minutes per leg or arm, and you can usually return to your normal activities immediately.
The veins may fade after a few weeks or months, but they typically remain gone for several years. If they return, you can have your treatment redone to get rid of them again. Side effects are minimal and include bruising, tenderness, or swelling at the injection site.
Spider Veins are not just an embarrassing skin condition; they can also be painful. If you have them or know someone that does, please share this blog post to help raise awareness!
The more people that learn about them and what causes them will hopefully reduce the number of cases in the future. For those who want to prevent them from developing further, it is crucial to reach out to a medical professional.
